HISTORY:
Jamie began log rolling at the age of 4. It's a family tradition dating back to the 1930's when his grandpa Harold learned it from the lumberjacks in the area. The Fischer family is currently the largest lumberjack family in the world with aunts, uncles, cousins, and siblings all participating. Jamie's dad, Jim, won a Men's Log Rolling World Title in 1972 and Jamie won his first title 31 years later. His grandpa had 14 world titles to his name! Jamie also holds the World Record in Boom Running with a time of 12.47. Jamie serves on the ILRA executive board (overseeing log rolling throughout the world) and is a log supplier (one of only a few in the world), tournament director, competitor, and log rolling coach. Jamie started a log rolling school for kids at the Hudson, WI YMCA sending dozens of rollers to the world championships over the years. Jamie currently attends graduate school at the University of Minnesota working on his master's degree in elementary education. He also operates a business that organizes lumberjack competitions between colleges.

JAMIE FISCHER'S FORESTRY MASTERS:
The inaugural ECHO Forestry Masters, presented by Lumberjack Enterprises and world-class lumberjack Jamie Fischer, took place in Syracuse, New York at the end of March. On a cold day with snow still on the ground, the “East Coast Lumberjack Round-Up” featured sixteen teams from five different colleges including Penn State University, Paul Smith College, Finger Lakes Community College, Cobleskill, and the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF), whose Forestry Club served as the host school for the event. Each team consisted of five to six men, women, or Jack and Jill (co-ed) who participated in a showcase of lumberjack skills with events ranging from axe throwing and fire-building to cross-cut sawing and chain saw cutting.

Congratulations to Paul Smith College, which was the overall winner in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions. Finger Lakes Community College placed 2nd in the Men’s division and 3rd in the Women’s division. Penn State University finished 3rd in the Men’s division and SUNY-ESF ended up 2nd in the Women’s division.
